Storage!
Before I donked by head, I redid some storage behind my desk, in my little work area thingy.
Previously, I had left over old desk bits on cinder blocks and speakers.
But now!
Now I have left over old desk bits on cinder blocks and speakers with random reject shop mini book cases!
And the effect isn’t too bad, surprisingly.
It’s hard to get a good photo, because my desk and the lounge is in the way (half the loungeroom is a loungeroom, the other half my desk area)

and

and me, clearly insane and enjoying the new storage space:

Haiti. And original artwork.
As I’m sure most of you know, Haiti has been struck by an earthquake. The worst earthquake it’s seen in 200 years. So…not so good. Reports are that there are more than one hundred thousand people dead.
Stop for a second and think about that. That’s more than everybody I know. Dead in one go.
Nothing is going to help those already gone, but the people left behind are doing it pretty tough.
If you feel so inclined, you can make a donation to help the survivors through a whole bunch of charities and methods.
And, if you’re in the mood for buying some art, you can do both at the same time.
I’m selling this original artwork, called ‘The Pointless Nowhere Tree’ and, if purchased, will donate 50% of the purchase price to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Click picture for a bigger view of the artwork

The Pointless Nowhere Tree, signed original
Pen and Ink
Approx 21 x 30cm (roughly 8.5 x 11), but photo shows size pretty clearly.
Comes unframed, and obviously the ‘toeknuckles.com’ watermark does NOT appear on the original
Postage and handling included in purchase price.
I’m asking $135 (US), which is a significant discount from my normal pricing, and includes shipping.
50% will be donated straight to the Haiti fund.
If you’re interested in purchasing, please just let me know!

My dad came home
Well, another night burning the midnight oil, curled up in a ball around my wacom, Seth and the cat already in bed.
And since I’m here, I’ll take a break from the painting to write about my evening. My dad just got back after 4 months in Canada (my dad’s partner is Canadian. Her met her online. It should also be noted that I met Seth online, and Laurie met her partner online too. ‘Thank god for the internet’ should be the family motto. And @ should be the family crest.) and tonight was the first time we’ve seen him since he got home.
It’s funny how you don’t realise how much you’ll miss somebody until they’re away, and then once they get back it’s like they were never gone. I must’ve said “Oh, were you there when this happened? Or were you here?” about a hundred times.
So there were a lot of (mostly hilarious) stories to be told, and fabulous gift giving. It was like Christmas. And in the true spirit of my family, we gave and received some mighty odd and fantastic gifts.
Such as!
A leather poncho he bought from a Mohawk Indian, and fun long fuzzy green shirts with polar bears:

and this is WITH red-eye reduction…

A fabulous hat:

And to quote Laurie “Oh no! I’m wearing an Opeth hoodie! How embarrassing!” which should hopefully teach her a lesson or two about wearing other people’s clothes…
Weird little key lights:

As well as a big fat can each of REAL, dark maple syrup. Now I have to figure out what to use it on/in so as not to waste a drop. And a nifty little camera tripod each with extendy legs. And a black shirt with a small leaf logo for Seth, who wears black, black and on a day when he’s feeling really fun, almost black.
Then while my dad was away both father’s day and his birthday came and went, so we got him:
Pickled herring.
A bag of unshelled peanuts.
Half a kilo of goat milk feta.
A book about birdsville.
All beautifully wrapped in a plastic bag. We re-used it. It’s environmentally friendly. Yeah it is. Shutup.

You will note we are one big photogenic family.
And now everybody has gone home, the house is dark and quiet, I’ve got my fuzzy green shirt with (some upside down now, I notice, the poor buggers) polar bears on and left over freshly baked peanut butter cookies.

Time to get to work.

A lick of paint for the kitchen.
Our kitchen is the most revolting colour. Was. Well, sort of still is.
Initially, it looked like this (photos from when we moved in):

And that photo doesn’t even begin to show how it really looked – it’s chipped, it’s stained. It’s nasty.
You can just image the conversation at the paint shop, can’t you?
“G’day, can I give you a hand at all?”
“Oh hi! Yes, I want some paint.”
“No worries! What colour would you like?”
“Well, see, I ate some dodgy Mexican last night – awful stuff. I was hurling the stuff up all night!
And you know… as I was there, hugging the toilet bowl in the dead of night, bits of half digested corn bespeckling my nighty, regurgitated beans sticking loose strands of hair to my cheek, I bought up the guacamole I had – slosh – right into the bowl.
..And it occurred to me – isn’t that a pretty colour!
So I want it that colour, my good man! That colour precisely!”
So instead of late night avocado regurgitation green, we opted for a gloss white for now.
Clean, goes with everything (we intend on painting some of our furniture in there BRIGHT PUERTO RICAN BROTHEL RED. Seth wants to decorate the kitchen with things here and there that remind him of his Puerto Rican heritage and family) and is that much lighter that I’ve noticed I don’t need to turn on the lights nearly as early in the afternoon as I did.

You can see in the photo above (me getting breakfast this morning – please excuse the shit everywhere. It’s moved from where it should be so I could paint) that I haven’t painted in the inside of the cupboard doors yet, but I will.
You can also (maybe?) see that the cat piss yellow counter tops have been covered up with what looks like metal sheeting. It isn’t actually metal sheeting, but it looks like it, and it’s shiny and clean and easy to clean up.
Haven’t managed to do anything about the lovely jaundice yellow walls yet, but thems the breaks.
I’m high on paint fumes – nothing bugs me.

Today
Woke up today feeling like I was in an oven. It’s funny weather – sunny, but with this hot, hot wind.
Perfect laundry drying day! (oh, how domestic of me)
Still, it seems most days that I wash laundry and hang it out to dry, it rains. So given that I either want dry laundry OR rain (it’s so dry here my grass is dieing) I figure it’s the perfect day for me to wash towels.

My laundry. As the bottles may suggest, I’m a pack-rat. And I ESPECIALLY can’t throw away bottles.
It’s exciting stuff at my house, I can tell you!

A wander about the garden in the evening
It’s a mess out there. But I like it.
Some happy snaps.

I’m looking forward to summer, so we can have people around and we can hang out in the garden of an evening.
Making a suitable area for a table and some chairs is a high priority on my ‘to do in the garden’ list.
